The art of La Barberia de Gràcia parades in London

La Barberia de Gràcia walked the catwalk on Sunday, October 6th, as a finalist at the prestigious International Visionary Award, one of the most important international hairdressing events. Jordi Pérez, creative director of La Barberia, traveled to London as a finalist in the male category after being selected among the numerous candidates that had been presented this year. It is the second time that La Barberia de Gracia has managed to be a finalist in these awards, after doing so for the first time in 2017.

The spectacular ICC Auditorium at the Convention Center Excel London dressed in gala to receive the more than 3000 attendees who arrived from corners around the planet and were eagerly awaiting to enjoy one of the world’s most important hairdressing shows: the Alternative Hair Show. This event is organized annually to raise funds for the fight against leukemia. One of the most awaited moments of this show was the final of the International Visionary Awards, in which the 40 finalists paraded on the stage with their proposals. Jordi Pérez surprised the audience with one of the proposals of his latest collection: SQUAD.

Although finally the prize was not for La Barberia de Gràcia, the fact that we have been able to march past for a second time in such an important event, which has a massive impact on the professional sector around the world, is already a success and an indisputable recognition of which all the La Barberia de Gràcia team are very proud of us.

La Barberia de Gràcia, no stopping.

In La Barberia de Gràcia we don’t close for holidays, although we need them! August is presented as a haven of tranquility after one of the most intense months we have lived in recent years. Exhausted, but happy. Thus we have reached the summer.

We have traveled to Paraguay in an experience that we will never forget in which we have enriched ourselves as a human and as professionals. What a great country, how great its people! And although Paraguay is the farthest destination that we have walked this year, Jordi and part of La Barberia team has traveled throughout the Spanish territory giving training in Seville, Madrid, Burgos, … By the hand of Sebastian Professional, we have been able to share knowledge with dozens of colleagues in different shows and seminars. Who said traveling for work is not rewarding?

And in case we didn’t have enough emotions, last May we received in the spectacular Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid the Premio Salon Look to the best hairdressing salon design. After several nominations finally the award came with us to Gràcia, and now he looks proud in our collection of awards, a permanent reminder that every effort and hard work has its reward.

The climax to the season was put on by the fabulous cover that Revista Coiffure has given us, and in which we have released our latest collection, SQUAD. A beautiful full color that fills us with pride and that we never tire of admiring.

So many lived moments, so many stories to tell, they deserved a big celebration. Because, if we do not share the good times, what is the point of achieving success? For this reason, friends, colleagues, neighbors, family, and the media, we meet at the Beards & Beers party, with which we celebrate together, very cool craft beer in hand, that we are living one of our most special moments.

And that for many years we have reason to celebrate!

La Barberia de Gràcia, in the Collage Show Solidario

Last April, in the framework of Cosmobeauty Barcelona fair, one of the most outstanding charity events in the beauty sector was held: the Collage Show Solidario. In front of a totally dedicated public, eight of the most nationally and internationally recognized hairdressing firms were invited to parade presenting their proposals to raise funds for the Alzheimer-Down research unit of the Hospital de la Santa Creu and Sant Pau.

The Barberia de Gràcia was one of the brands present at the Beauty BCN Fashion Show, and Jordi Pérez left the attending professionals with an open mouth with a totally innovative staging.

Jordi Pérez designed a hairdressing show based on the world of sports. Usually, explains Jordi, the male hairdressing shows respond to very specific typologies: the Dandy style of more groomed men; a more youthful university style option; the hard rockers, and finally the athletes. Jordi opted to choose this last style, and chose rugby as the central axis.

In order to prepare the staging, the team had the immense luck of being able to count on the collaboration of Eva Martínez, the choreographer of the Barça Cheerleaders, who became involved altruistically – like the whole team – with the project.

To make the show more enjoyable it was structured in three parts, starting with a standard parade that became the part that most surprised the audience: a striptease with which the models were stripped of their shirts. Finally the show ended with one of the most recognized elements of world rugby: a Haka. This dance is a ritual of the Maori warriors to scare the enemy who makes the New Zealand rugby team before playing their matches.

The team of La Barberia de Gràcia confesses that having participated in such an important solidarity event was a real honor, and they value the result very positively.

It is a pride to be able to help the profession in its most solidary and altruistic way!

Bye Bye short Hair

Jordi Pérez, director of La Barberia de Gràcia – the only barbershop in Spain with the 3 Michelin stars of the hairdressing sector – reviews the male hair trends that promise to give much to talk about this year. Perez, elected best barber on several occasions and pre-nominated Spanish Hairdresser of the Year 2018, is clear that the dictatorship of short hair is over. Hipsters and other worshipers of this style are going to be forced to coexist and give way to styles with much longer hair and also, the great forgotten and often reviled, in recent years, middle part hair.

As it has been demonstrated in last Fashion Weeks, specifically in London, Paris and Milan, the long hair measures are imposing with great force, although the shorts will still be there for a long time, since they have a very faithful audience that it is totally identified with very masculine, very Lumber and very retro tendencies and styles, with which an important part of men feel comfortable. But those who have other concerns and who like to follow the trends more closely, are in luck, since long hair has definitely been the protagonist in the last catwalks.

For Jordi Pérez, seeing so many models with medium lengths and even some long hair parading on the catwalks is a real pleasure, because it allows them to be more creative when it comes to working their hair.

Finally highlight that middle part hair, which so many years we have renegade – whoever is without sin, cast the first stone, confesses the director of La Barberia -, returns stomping. There are many models of the haute couture brands that have worn middle part hair in the runways mentioned previously, so we can see that 80s and 90s trends are going to continue in male hair this season and if not ask to Stranger Things or Bohemian Rhapsody fans.

It’s November, it’s movember

Movember is a movement that takes place every year during the month of November to raise society’s awareness of men’s health issues such as prostate or testicular cancer. Throughout the month, actions are taken to raise funds for programs around the world that save and improve men lives.

Movember was born in Australia in 2003, when a group of friends decided to grow a moustache to support a friend who had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. They agreed to pay ten dollars for each person who left a moustache during the month of November to raise awareness of society about these terrible diseases.

Little by little the movement grew and nowadays there are already more than 5 million people who join the cause every year. They are called Bros and Sistas, this is how they are known to all those who participate either by letting their moustaches grow, donating money, or organizing fundraising events to fight against prostate cancer, testicular cancer, health mental and physical inactivity.

For 30 days the moustache becomes an ad that walks and speaks advocating for male health, breaking with the taboo of the disease and supporting the visibility of the movement.

And you, are you joining Movember?

Jordi Pérez, winner of the Best Collection at the Barberías con Encanto Awards

Jordi Pérez, creative director of La Barberia de Gràcia, collected last Sunday September the 30th the prize for the best men’s collection for Grey Fringes at Barberías Con Encanto Awards. These awards, the most outstanding in the barbering sector, gather every year the best barbers of Spain in a gala that has already become one of the references among the professionals of the national barbering. Pérez has been a finalist in all editions of these awards, although it is the first time he wins the award for Best Collection. He was also nominated for Best Barber Shop and Best Barber.

Grey Fringes is the winning collection, a proposal that took Jordi Pérez to Chicago last April, where he also won the same category of the ABS Global Image Awards. This collection, which has been published in multiple media both nationally and internationally, reflects the change that is taking place in the hairdressing sector, in which the male public wants to innovate without renouncing their masculinity, looking for a very powerful image and very manly, and who dares to take the step to perform fantasy colors, such as the gray and silver colors that are presented in this collection.

Barberías con Encanto awards are presented by the homonymous association that was born with the aim of providing visibility, dissemination and prestige to the sector of the Barbershop of this country, which is currently experiencing one of its golden moments. The awards ceremony was held on Sunday September the 30th at the emblematic Puerta de América hotel in Madrid, at a ceremony presented by Vicenç Moretó and José Navarro.

The Barberia de Gràcia doesn’t miss out an event

This will be an intense weekend in Madrid, where the international fair of image and aesthetics will take place, Salón Look, one of the most important in the beauty sector, where every year professionals from all corners of Spain and abroad meet themselves to discover, debate, comment and share. La Barberia de Gràcia team will be there to visit the more than 400 exhibitors that make up this twenty-first edition of the fair.

But it’s not all about visiting the fair. Jordi Pérez and his team travel to Madrid with the agenda to the fullest. On Saturday night Jordi will be in charge of presenting the Night of the Stars of TheQHair, a gala to be held in the Goya Hall of Ifema, where the new awards given each year by this Haidressing Michelin Guide will be presented.

On Sunday night we will dress up again to attend the final of Barberías Con Encanto Awards, in which we are finalists in three categories: Best Barbershop, Best Barber, and Best Collection. How exciting!

We will finish the weekend with the final of the Spanish hairdressing awards, granted by the Club Figaro. The ideal event to discover new and impressive collections of creative hairdressing that always leave us open-mouthed.

An intense weekend full of hairdressing, barbershop, and colleagues. We promise to return with our heads full of new and incredible ideas.

Creating La Barberia de Gràcia

The history of La Barberia de Gràcia goes back many decades. But sometimes you do not need to travel far in time to discover very interesting details. Do you want to know how the design of the new barber shop, inaugurated in 2014, was designed? Keep reading.

The interior designer Ernest Ameller was responsible for creating the concept of the new barbershop. Jordi Pérez worked with him side by side, showing him images of barbershops that for our creative director are a clear worldwide reference. It was at this moment that the idea emerged about which the whole design would be developed, an idea based on our own history and culture: Catalan modernism.

After many conversations and investigations, it was decided to bet on a minimalist style clearly Mediterranean but with modernist touches. The more than 50 years of history that the barbershop has behind it had to have a leading role, and this also had to be reflected in the new space, achieving a design that offered this feeling of historical and experiential burden.

The white color was chosen as the base color for the space, in order to increase the sensation of luminosity. The tiles were added to give continuity throughout the entire premises, in addition to providing a very characteristic retro air.

The modernist style elegantly splashes the room, highlighting elements such as doorknobs and door handles, or in the light design: bulbs and lamps. In addition, the organic ornaments placed on some doors are an unequivocal reference to this artistic style so recognized in our city, Barcelona.

This design studied to the millimetre only increases the experiential experience we share with our clients, a sensorial journey that can only be understood in one way: by living it in the first person.

La Barberia de Gràcia, finalist in 3 categories of the Barberías Con Encanto awards.

Best barber, Best barbershop and Best collection. To these three categories of the Barberías Con Encanto Awards we have been nominated as a finalists. Jordi Pérez, creative director of La Barberia de Gràcia, knows these awards first-hand, because he has been a finalist in all previous editions.

Now we have to wait to know who are the winners of these awards given by this meeting point of the Spanish barbershop sector. A project that was born a few years ago and that tries to defend barbershop as a philosophy of life in its purest state: a vanguard profession, successful, influential and stronger than ever.

Next Saturday September 29th, in Madrid, coinciding with the celebration of Salón Look, and after the success of the previous editions, the awards ceremony of this V edition of the awards will take place, in a night full of personalities and brands, in which the best representatives of the sector will be recognized.

With these three nominations La Barberia de Gràcia is positioned as one of the major references in the sector, and once again rewarded all the work done over the past few years.
